I Gotika - Komputer Melody

Back in 2006 an Italian Italo Dance artist named Floorfilla (Gabriele Cerlini & Elvio Moratto) produced a song named Komputer Melody. After a while a vinyl release was released on DFC (Dance Floor Corporation) which contained a couple remixes of the original. The original Komputer Melody was a great track, not to mention the remixes where superb too!

Now I Gotika joined the gang and remixed Komputer Melody, this release was published by Planeta Mix Spain. The I Gotika release contains versions of Komputer Melody made by the following artists: Dance Rocker, DJ Hyo and Discobastarz.

The Original Extended Mix starts with a good fat Italo Dance bass line followed by some vocal cuts. After a good break the vocals start, you know it the "Komputer Melody" I don't have to explain that.

The vocals sound pretty akward compared to the original Floorfilla version of Komputer Melody, I Gotika did not use the original vocals of Floorfilla instead they have recorded it themselves. I really like that because that makes this version of Komputer Melody really original like it should be. After the vocals the main synthesizer melody starts. The synthesizer melody sounds good and catchy, so this is a good point.

I also want to mention that after the synthesizer melody there are some random vocals done by I Gotika singing "I Gotika ... Italian Dance! ... Make some noise for dance music ... This is Italo Dance!". I really had to mention it in this review because the guy who sung this has a big Italian accent and it really reminds me of Italo Disco, where the vocalists had a big Italian accent but still tried to sing in English. Well, I liked it so lets move on to the next version: Dance Rocker Remix.

The Dance Rocker version starts right with vocal cuts, followed by a nice bass line on the background. After this the full vocal starts with a simple bell lead on the background, which makes it sound pretty good. The synthesizer melody is just simple, basically Dance Rocker played the vocal melody on a synthesizer, so this is nothing special.

After the synthesizer melody finishes a vocal starts singing "Back to the oldskool, I'm back to the oldskool". Just like I wrote before, this vocal was sung with a big Italian accent. If this was the first time you have heard this masterpiece, you would immediately notice it's an Italian vocalist.

In my opinion the DJ Hyo version is the best version on this release. This version sound much harder than the previous versions, has a super synthesizer melody and the vocals have even a bigger Italian accent. Was the vocalist exaggerating like: the bigger the accent the better? I probably will never find out but it's great!

The previous versions on this release where just AWSOME! But the Discobastardz really disappointed me, this one was truly a pain in the ... well ear. I can say the Discobastardz version is a House version of Komputer Melody, and even if it supposed to be any other genre it will would be bad.

The first 30 seconds you'll hear the drum line followed by some vocal cuts and finally the main vocal starts. The synthesizer melody in this version was composed in House style, it's just not right it sounds so bad, along with the rest it sounds super bad. After the boring melody a random vocal sample starts, like the rest this vocal sample is very boring and it sounds very cheap. It really looks like this one was recorded with poor equipment. The Discobastardz version is just a disappointment.

Many Italo artists from the 80ties (Italo Disco) used cheap equipment but still managed to create true masterpieces. A good example of this is "K. Barre - Right by the moon", this is one of the best Italo Disco songs ever made! The vocals sound very cheap the vocalist has a big accent and doesn't even pronounce the words properly, but the synthesizer melodies and breaks are just priceless! If you would listen to this song you wouldn't even have a clue about the lyrics but the song will take you on an Italo trip.

Just because a vocalist has an accent it really doesn't mean that a song will sound bad, many people (like me) won't or don't even care about the lyrics nor accents. I Gotika - Komputer Melody is a perfect example of this, the Italian accents gave it a REAL Italo Dance sound! So for this one I will rate it a 7 out of 10 stars.
